Sustainability Simplified

Project Briefing

Building performance starts before there is a design. Using the expertise of the Sussed team we assist clients to define their green credentials through specific project briefs that are focused on climate, wellness and resilience.

The brief will define clear methodologies and benchmarks to ensure success in the project delivery, covering key aspects of operational performance, fabric first design, daylighting and healthy space.

Fabric First Approach

Passivhaus buildings provide high level occupant comfort with minimal energy usage for heating and cooling. They are certified through a quality assurance process which places an exacting attention on the detail design and construction in accordance with the principles developed by the Passivhaus Institute in Germany.

As Certified Passivhaus Designer, working with a UK certification body, we can guide you through the process for new build (Passivhaus Standards) and retrofit (EnerPHit Standards). Project performance will be assessed continually using PhPP modelling, to allow accurate reporting of predicted energy use, which will be validated on completion.

Carbon Assessment

The climate impact of buildings includes both operational carbon, which is the carbon created by the use of energy to heat and power a building, as well as embodied carbon, which is the carbon that is released in the manufacturing, production, and transportation of building materials.

We evaluate and assess carbon impact using Life Cycle Assessment to PAS2080, to allow carbon neutrality to be achieved through construction and operation of a project.

Soft Landings / GSL

Soft Landings are a defined strategy to manage the smooth transition from construction to occupation, ensuring optimisation of operational performance.

Sussed work with our clients to define key operational outcomes and performance targets which are measured throughout the design and construction, including a period of aftercare, monitoring and evaluation via Post Occupancy Evaluation (POE). The POE provides the tools and knowledge on a buildings performance and a route map to optimise for long term performance. Our team have the expertise to deliver specific solutions to meet the mandatory Government Soft Landings [GSL] criteria for publicly procured projects.
